Executive Director, Business Development

Our Business Development team oversees our new business initiatives across the U.S. to meet the increasing demand for agency-of-record and project relationships. They identify, pursue and win strategic and tactical new business, and create a smooth transition for our new clients into the agency.

We are looking for an Executive Director, Business Development at R/GA in our San Francisco office to oversee growth for both our SF and Portland offices.

The individual is expected to be well connected and to be capable of identifying, pursuing and winning strategic and tactical new business opportunities. The successful candidate will be able to use his/her current depth of knowledge of digital and offline marketing and technology, along with a swiftly-acquired knowledge of agency (and local office) history, case studies, current business and strategic direction.

The right person will report to the SVP Managing Director, Business Development, U.S. and will have close working relationships and support from the Managing Director of the SF office, as well as creative, technical, and production leads in the office and in headquarters.

We see this person as an extension to the SF leadership team and a contributor to the complete process, not just a leads facilitator. This person will help the team strategize the best response, the best solution, and the best proposal to the challenges on hand.

Here's what you should know if you want to be an Executive Director, Business Development at R/GA:

On any given day you might

  • Help to define and develop a new business strategy tailored to the needs of the office
  • Proactively initiate new client relationships and leverage existing partnerships
  • Follow up on new business leads and identify and prioritize organic growth opportunities
  • Define new business processes, and manage that process in conjunction with SVP MD, SF Managing Director and other new business leads
  • Contribute to capabilities presentations and other marketing materials
  • Coordinate internal resources within office and cross-office to develop client proposals
  • Lead new business/pitch presentations
  • Develop and maintain a client and prospect database
  • Lead internal new business meetings and agency updates
  • Work with the agency management team to meet overall agency vision and objectives

The ideal person

  • Has experience in the Bay Area advertising and technology industries, as well as knowledge of local networking events
  • Has previous marketing or business development experience within an advertising agency or creative service/consulting business
  • Has a solid track record of developing successful relationships
  • Has a proven record of closing major retained accounts
  • Has previous experience developing partnership opportunities with clear deal parameters with an outlined ROI

  • 7+ years’ business development experience
